Wow it has been a while since I last posted a site update. It must look like we haven't been doing anything on the website. In fact we have been working hard (we being me and one other) on a new Webcam chat feature. But in the process we also added a number of other features to make the chat room even better. All this in the hope that some people will think the site useful enough to become a paid member (Hooray! for paid members :|)


The enhancements are:

Webcam Support
You can now publish your web cam to the Chat Room and allow others (of your choosing) to view your video stream.

Private Chat Permissions
You must now give permission for someone to private chat with you. No more getting spammed by people you do not want to talk to.

Video Chat Permissions
You also must give permission for someone to view your webcam. Keeping you in control.

Webcam Conference
You can view view not just one other member's webcam but multiple. To view multiple you first get permission from each member (member menu option) and then once you see their video display you can use your mouse to drag it outside of the private chat tab. You can then arrange all the video displays and watch / talk to the other members.

IMPORTANT!
Voice is a bit slow and noisy so use headphones if you want to talk. By supporting multiple simultaneous video chats the voice is a little slower than using Skype or similar one-on-one video chats. Later we plan to add one-on-one high speed voice chat but until then apologies for the slight voice delay.

Please send us your feedback. There are only a few of us who built this site and we are underpaid and unloved so please, let us know your thoughts. Your feedback is invaluable. Apologies also if we are not responsive to your questions, this site is yet to be able to support a full-time support person.

How to Spot A Scammer? Since I work here at SoSeeAll.com, I see plenty of the tricks some people get up to in order to trick information or money from unsuspecting members like you. First note that there are actually very few of these people but they are very forward (i.e. they contact you first) so it can seem like there are lots of them.


Typically a SCAMMER - someone who has an ulterior motive for contacting you other than to be friends - will send you a private message. The private messages often follows a common format. If you know the format you can spot the scammers more quickly.

Below I have listed some of the common warning signs that should be setting off alarm bells in your head so read carefully.

You get a private message from a member and ...

1. they think you are hot, interesting, fun AND in the same message they give you their email address "you can contact me on my personal email address" (real agenda: likely they just want your email address to add to a spammers list, Question: why would someone give you, a stranger, their email address when you can contact them on our site without need of an email address? Answer: because they are up to no good)

2. they think you are lovely AND send a link to another site where they have a profile (real agenda: likely the target website is a very good fake and they want you to join, give over your email address, and possibly money).

3. you start a conversation with them and they tell you about their poor mum with cancer, or their difficult plight in a war-torn country or any other sad form of human suffering (real agenda: appeal to your humanity, get money from you. these people a morally deficient, be very very careful)

4. they want you to move some money for them and some other insanely suspicious activity (real agenda: get your money or your details for identity theft)

5. They claim to belong to a church, aid organization or some other humanitarian or moral organization (real agenda: you guessed it, get YOUR money or personal details)


The cold hard reality:
Getting to know people takes time and patience. Get your hormones and ego under control and be patient. Generally, scammers don't have time to waste convincing you they are for real. Unless you are like "insanely good looking" ( like me ) you should be rather cautious of anyone who finds you attractive on initial contact and then attempts to solicit personal information from you.

We have created this website so you can keep in touch with people without handing over personal information like your email address, Facebook or MySpace details or whatever. Get to know them, after a while you will see those who are genuine and those who are up to something dishonest.

The warm wonderful reality:
99.5% of members here are genuine. Have fun, get to know people and they will open up to you and who knows, you may find a friend or maybe even a lover and partner.


What can you do when you get spammed?
DO NOT RESPOND. Responding just encourages them. If you think they might be OK then please DO NOT send them your email address. Send a private message from this website. Get to know them first. There is absolutely no reason to exchange personal email addresses - you can do everything from here (this website).

Then...

REPORT THE MEMBER TO US. We are very small and seriously underfunded and understaffed so we cannot catch all spammers and scammers. We need your help. When you open a private message there is a link to report the member. Do IT! and we will remove them from the site.

I haven't written a site update for a few releases (Is that lazy or what?) Actually we have been working hard on some pretty important features and just haven't had time to talk about it. Until now that is. So what has changed?

In order to build a better community we need to give members more ways to control who can be a part of the community. That is, most people are genuinely interested in meeting people and generally having fun. But there is always a small percentage of people who are trying to sell something, run a scam (trick people) or are just plain rude and annoying. This smaller group can be hard for us to detect. We have added a new feature that allows members such as you report these problem members as soon as they appear. We then get a short list of problem members that we can quickly review and optionally suspend.

The "Report this Member" option is available in the member context menu that appears when you place your mouse pointer over a member's name. Once selected a form appears where you can check the boxes that best describes the problem member and add any extra details in the space provided. We also have mechanisms in place to give priority to reports made by regular and VIP (moderators, premium, verified etc) members.

We have also created a Close Your Account page (Under the Membership section of the website) so you can close your account if you so desire (rather than contacting support). This page also explains a number of ways to lock down your account so you don't appear to other members thus effectively closing your account without the disadvantages that goes with that.

We have also incorporated a number of enhancements to our administration systems to better track and close problem accounts.

We believe these enhancement will radically improve the quality of the members and hence the community. If you have any feedback then please let me know.

Tips for Using the Chat Room

if you have not already visited the chat room then you really must check it out. Even non-members (guests) can enter the chat room and chat with website members and other guests. I am writing this blog for those who have used the chat room a little and want to become a power user, meet more people and generally get more out of the experience.

First things first. People come and go from the chat room all the time. At one time there may be 5 users in there and 10 minutes later there may be 30 users. So be patient and keep dropping in. You never know when you might meet someone you find interesting.


Guests and Members?
A Guest is someone who has not yet joined SoSeeAll - you can tell who the guests are in the chat room because the do not have a portrait picture next to their name in the user list. Members will have a small picture to the left of their name (the portrait picture will have a generic image if they have not ever uploaded a portrait picture). Also, if you roll you mouse over a member's user name many more interactive options appear like View his or her profile and send him or her a private message.

Chat Room Moderators
If you have problems or questions just try asking others in the chat room. Especially members as they have probably used the website more than guests. Occasionally there will be a moderator in the chat room. Moderators are members, normally long term members, with extra abilities to help people and also to remove annoying or rude people from the chat room. Moderators will always appear at the top of the chat room user list. Their user names are colored differently from everyone else.

Blocking Users - How to deal with rude, annoying or angry users
Although 99% of people are social and friendly there are always those who are not. As a member (guests will have to join to access this feature) you may block a user who is annoying you. A blocked user does NOT know they have been blocked. You will not see any messages sent from that user. The blocked user can still write to the chat room and to you but you will not see any of them. If you think someone should be removed from the chat room because they are violating the terms of use then you can notify a moderator. Moderators can ban the user from the room or even notify support and request that the user be banned from the entire website. If no moderator is present you may send a private message to support detailing your complaint.

Male or Female?
For guests, thee is not way to determine if they are male or female unless you ask. But for members simply roll your mouse over their name. The extra options displayed will tell you if they are male or female. For example: for a male the view profile option will say "View his profile" and for a female it will say "View her profile".

Avoid Typing User Names
If you mouse-click on a user's name it will be copied into the chat message entry box (prefixed with an @ symbol). When you are talking to someone in the main chat room it is often clearer if you include the person you are talking to.

For example: if I am chatting with Herman and with Support in the chat room it might look like this:

Alfred: @herman, i got that new computer
Alfred: How do I upload a portrait picture @support
Herman: Great news, is it fast? @alfred
Support: Let me show you how @alfred


As you can see from the above conversation, it is clear who I am chatting with. Remember, rather than typing the user's name (some can be pretty difficult to type) simply click on their name in the user list to have it inserted into you chat message entry box.

Giving Out Personal Information
We strongly recommend that you do not give out personal information like your email address, your home address or your phone number or even your facebook page until you have come to know and trust another website member. We have built this website so that you can socialize and get to know people over time without needing to give out personal information. If another member is harassing you then you can take measures to block them or in serious cases, we can suspend their account. The moment you give out your email address we cannot prevent them from contacting you.

Remember, any good and worthwhile friendship takes time - do not be in a hurry to reveal personal information about yourself. Be wary of the person wanting to know everything about you in a very short time. They are probably not who they say they are.

Finally, any inappropriate interaction with minors (members under the age of 18) will result in immediate account suspension and depending on the circumstance may even involving reporting the incident to local authorities.


Extra Commands
The chat room accepts special commands. If you start a message with the forward slash character (/) then it will be interpreted as a command. There are many commands, most of which you do not need but some are useful to know. To see all the available commands type the command:

/help

To get help on a specific command type /help command_name. For example, to get help on the whisper command type:

/help whisper

Some Useful Commands
Command /whisper
A whisper is a message sent to just one user. It can only be seen by you and the recipient. To send a whisper you must supply the user name of the person you want to whisper to. This must be the first word after the whisper command. For example:

/whisper @alfred: hello, no one can see this message but you and me.

In the above example, the user name "alfred" follows immediately after the /whisper command. The colon (:) that follows the name is optional. Anything after the user's name (or colon) is the actual message you want to send to the user.

Command /private
You may use private chat when you don't want to constantly enter whisper to talk to just one other user. Private chat opens a new tabbed window where you may chat privately with just one person. So use /whisper to send a quick private message to one user and use /private to have a private conversation with another user. To private chat with someone you must supply the name of the user immediately after the command. For example, to chat with me type:

/private @alfred

Note: You may only open 5 private chat tabs at once. If anyone else attempts to private chat with you after the 5th chat window it will appear in the main chat room as a whisper. To avoid this close any private chat windows as soon as you are finished chatting with the user.

Command /me
The /me command exists to help you express yourself. It allows you to talk about yourself in the 3rd person. For example, to say "Alfred ducks for cover" simply type:

/me ducks for cover

You may use the /me command to play silly games in the chat room. For example:


Hermen throws a pillow at Alfred
Alfred ducks but the pillow hits BigMan
BigMan spits feathers out of his mouth and throws the pillow back at Herman

Si aun no han visitado la sala de chat, deberian hacerlo. Incluso los que no son miembros (clientes) pueden entrar en la sala de chat y conversar con miembros del sitio web y otros invitados. Les escribiendo este blog para aquellos que han utilizado la sala de chat un poco y quieren convertirse en usuario avanzado, conocer a otras personas y, en general sacar más provecho de la experiencia.

Primero lo primero. Las personas pueden entrar y salir de la sala de chat todo el tiempo. En un momento dado pueden haber 5 usuarios allí y 10 minutos más tarde pueden haber 30 usuarios. Así que tengan paciencia, Nunca se sabe cuándo se puede conocer a alguien que les parezca interesante.


Los invitados y miembros?

Chat de Moderadores
Si tienes problemas o preguntas sólo trata de preguntarle a otros en la sala de chat. Especialmente miembros que utilizan el sitio web más que como huéspedes. De vez en cuando habrá un moderador en la sala de chat. Los moderadores son miembros, normalmente miembros a largo plazo, con capacidades adicionales para ayudar a la gente y también para eliminar los molestosos o groseros de la sala de chat. Los Moderadores aparecerán siempre en la parte superior de la lista de usuarios de la sala de chat. Sus nombres son de diferente color que el resto.

Bloqueo de usuarios - ¿Cómo tratar con los usuarios descorteses, molestos o enojones ?
Aunque el 99% de las personas son sociales y amigable, siempre hay quienes no lo son. Como miembro (los invitados tendrán que unirse para acceder a esta función), puedes bloquear a un usuario que está molestando. Un usuario bloqueado no sabe que ha sido bloqueado. No podrás ver los mensajes enviados de ese usuario. El usuario bloqueado todavía puede escribirte en la sala de chat, pero no verás ninguno de sus mensajes. Si crees que alguien debe ser retirado de la sala de chat, ya que están violando las condiciones de uso entonces puede notificarlo a un moderador. Los moderadores pueden prohibir al usuario de la habitación o incluso notificar apoyo y solicitar que el usuario sea prohibido en todo el sitio web. Si no está presente el moderador puedes enviar un mensaje privado detallando tu queja.

Hombre o mujer?
Para los huéspedes, no se determina si son hombres o mujeres a menos que preguntes. Pero para los miembros simplemente usa el mouse sobre tu nombre. Las opciones adicionales mostradas te dirán si son hombres o mujeres. Por ejemplo: para una opción en hombres, la vista de perfil dirá "Ver su perfil" y para una mujer te dirá "Ver su perfil".

Evitar tener que escribir los nombres de usuario
Un clic del ratón sobre el nombre de un usuario y se copiará en la ventana de chat de entrada de mensajes (precedido de un símbolo @). Cuando estás hablando con alguien en la sala de chat a menudo es más claro si se incluye a la persona que está hablando. Por ejemplo: si estoy hablando con Herman y con el apoyo en la sala de chat, podría tener este aspecto:

Dar Información Personal
Te recomendamos encarecidamente no dar información personal como tu dirección de correo electrónico, tu dirección o tu número de teléfono o tu página de Facebook hasta que hayas llegado a conocer y confiar en otro miembro de la página web. Hemos creado este sitio web para que puedas socializar y conocer a gente con el tiempo sin necesidad de dar información personal. Si otro miembro te está acosando, entonces puedes tomar medidas para bloquearlos o en casos graves, se puede suspender su cuenta. En el momento en que das a conocer tu dirección de correo electrónico no podemos evitar que entren en contacto contigo.

Recuerda, una buena amistad y que vale la pena requiere de tiempo - no te apresures en revelar información personal sobre ti mismo. Ten cuidado de la persona que desea saber todo sobre ti en un tiempo muy corto. Probablemente no sea quien dicen ser.

Por último, cualquier interacción inapropiada con menores (miembros menores de 18 años) resultará en la suspensión inmediata de la cuenta y dependiendo de las circunstancias, incluso puede que contemple la información del incidente a las autoridades locales.


Comandos Extra
La sala de chat acepta comandos especiales. Si inicias un mensaje con el carácter de barra diagonal (/) a continuación, será interpretado como un comando. Hay muchos comandos, la mayoría de los cuales no son necesarios, pero es util saberlos. Para ver todos los comandos disponibles:

En el ejemplo de arriba, el nombre de usuario "Alfred" sigue inmediatamente después del comando / susurro. Los dos puntos (:) que sigue al nombre es opcional. Cualquier cosa después del nombre del usuario es el mensaje real que deseas enviar al usuario.

Comando /privado
Puedes usar la charla privada, cuando no quieres entrar en constante susurro para hablar con un usuario. El Chat privado abre una nueva ventana con pestañas donde se puede conversar en privado con una sola persona. Así que utiliza / susurro a enviar un mensaje privado rápido de un usuario y de uso privado para mantener una conversación privada con otro usuario. Para charlar privado con alguien debes dar el nombre del usuario inmediatamente despues del comando. Por ejemplo, para chatear conmigo:

/privado @Alfred

Nota: Sólo puedes abrir 5 pestañas de chat privado a la vez. Si intentas mas de 5, después de la 5 ª ventana de chat, aparecerá en la sala principal de chat como un susurro. Para evitarlo, cierra cualquier ventana de chat privado tan pronto como haya terminado de charlar con el usuario.

Comando /mi
El / me mando existe para ayudar a expresarse. Te permite hablar de uno mismo en 3 ª persona. Por ejemplo, decir "Alfred cubre patos", simplemente escribe:

/mi cubre patos

Puedes utilizar el /mi comando para jugar juegos tontos en la sala de chat. Por ejemplo:

Hermen tira una almohada a Alfred
Alfred pato, pero la almohada golpea a Hombre Grande
Hombre Grande escupe plumas de la boca y tira la almohada a Herman

Hola Chicos,

Chicos! ha pasado ya tiempo desde la última vez que les envie un blog. He estado realmente muy ocupado haciendo nuestra nueva aplicación sala de chat. Me complace decir que ya está disponible para todo el mundo y pueden probarlo en el sitio. Sé que algunos miembros han estado esperando la sala de Chat por largo tiempo asiesque disculpen por la espera - Actualmente soy el único en el estudio de desarrollo por lo que todo tarda un poco más de lo que nos gustaría. Hemos decidido construir la aplicación de chat desde cero por lo que tiene todas las características que estábamos soñando. Por ejemplo, hemos integrado la traducción automática (gracias al maravilloso Traductor Google) para que las personas que hablan lenguas diferentes pueden chatear entre sí. También tenemos previsto ponerle la traducción automática a otras áreas de la página web. Seras capaz de enviar un mensaje privado (correo electrónico) a otro miembro y éste aparecerá en su bandeja de entrada en su idioma. Además, los blogs, los mensajes del foro y los comentarios se mostrarán en su idioma. Pero eso sera en el futuro, por ahora, el chat esta listo para que puedas hablar con otros miembros, o incluso los invitados o visitas (personas que aún no han ingresado). Boy! it has been a while since I last posted to this blog. I have been really really busy writing our new chat room application. I am happy to say it is now available for everyone to try out on the website. I know some members have been wanting chat for a while so apologies for the long wait - I am the only developer at present so everything takes a little longer than we would like. We decided the build the entire chat application from scratch so we could have all the unique features we were dreaming of. For example, we have integrated automatic translation (thanks for wonderful google translate) so people speaking different languages can chat with each other. We also plan to bring in automatic translation to other areas of the website. You will be able to send a private message (email) to another member and it will appear in their inbox in their language. Also, blogs, forum posts and comments will be displayed in your language. But that is all in the future, for now, we have chat so you can talk to other members or even guests (people who have not yet joined). So check our the chat area of the website and let us know what you think. I will be in their from time to time and so will support so feel free to say hi anytime. We speak English but now, you can talk to us in Spanish and we will still understand. Woohoo!

Esta actualización incluye un nuevo método de pago llamado AlertPay que te permite comprar una prima mensual de miembro. También hemos incluido un paquete de 1 semana de prueba para aquellos que sólo quieren probar Membresía Premium. Si estás familiarizado con la forma de PayPal, AlertPay entonces te será muy familiar. this update includes a new payment method called AlertPay that allows you to purchase a monthly Premium Membership to SoSeeAll.com. We have also included a 1 week trial package for those who just want to try out Premium Membership. If you are familiar with the way PayPal works then AlertPay will be very familiar to you. Unfortunately the people who run the AlertPay website have only completed an English text version of the payment process (on their website). We have emailed AlertPay and they said that they have discussed support for Spanish, but alas, nothing definite in the near future. We are actively searching for an alternative payment system that also supports the Spanish language. Apologies for the delay. Note however, if you do know English or can get some help from an English speaker then you can still use the AlertPay payment method.

Apart from the above mentioned change we have made a number of minor updates and improvements but nothing to get excited about

Han pasado algunas semanas, pero finalmente tenemos otro sitio actualizado para ti.

Video de Alta Calidad
Subir un vídeo, ahora es con mayor calidad. Hemos estado un poco descontentos con la resolución del vídeo después de haber sido codificado para su presentación en el sitio. Ahora, la codificación del vídeo que se está usando es diferente para garantizar la calidad y asi ea mucho mejor. Por lo tanto, empieza a subir los vídeos.

Miembros Premium

Si vas a actualizar a miembro premium, en la página verás más detalles sobre lo que se obtiene cuando se actualiza con la prima y la diferenciaque que hay de cuando es gratis. El primer método de pago es por teléfono o SMS. Si estás en un país que no es compatible con este método de pago, no te preocupes, vamos a estar trabajando en otros métodos en los próximos meses.

Wow! It has been a few weeks but finally we have another site update for you.

High Quality Video
Upload a video now and you will find the quality is much higher when played on the website. We have been a little unhappy with the resolution of the video after it was encoded for presentation on the site. So we went back to our textbooks and notes and worked out a better solution. Now video encoding is being done in a different way that ensures the quality is much better. So start uploading those videos.

Premium Membership
We have enabled our first payment method for upgrading to premium membership WOOHOO! If you go to the upgrade to premium membership page you will see more details on what you get when you upgrade to premium and how it differs from the standard free membership. The first payment method is pay by phone or SMS. If you are in a country that doesn't support this method of payment, do not despair, we will be working on additional methods over the coming months.

No son muchos los cambios en esta actualización.

1. El Perfil de cambio de imagen funciona de nuevo - Algunas personas han estado preguntando por qué no podían cambiar su perfil de imagen. Ahora p,uedes hacerlo nuevamente.

2. Las fotos nuevas ahora aparecen en el sitio inmediatamente. Al subir una foto es posible que no aparecieran en la "Galería" por un par de minutos. Hemos cambiado esto para que aparezcan de inmediato. Esto se aplica también a la moderacion de una foto. Tan pronto sea marcada por un miembro desaparecera.

3. La imagen de perfil del miembro cuando hace un comentario - El miembro puede ver la imagen de quien hace comentarios sobre su foto, vídeo, blog o perfil. También mostramos la foto de perfil del miembro en la lista de solicitud de amistad.

4. Ahora pueden cargar archivos de vídeo MOV - Corregir errores que impiden la carga de archivos de vídeo con la extensión MOV (pronto: tan pronto como sea posible conseguire la actualización del procesamiento de vídeo para que tus vídeos sean de mejor calidad ).

¿Dónde están las fotos que he subido? Si has subido fotos y videos que ya no son visibles, puede ser porque se les está moderando. El botón rojo que ves arriba de las fotos y los vídeos permite a los miembros marcar el contenido de un moderador. Este contenido no es visible para nadie, excepto moderadores. Los moderadores son miembros de este sitio que tienen la habilidad especial para revisar el contenido que se ha caracterizado por la moderación. El moderador puede decidir dejar el contenido en el sitio o eliminarlo definitivamente. Por lo tanto, si el contenido que has subido nunca vuelve a aparecer, entonces es probable que haya sido eliminado.

not a lot of changes in this update.

1. Change Profile Picture now working again - Some people have been wondering why they could not change their profile picture. You should be able to now.

2. New photos now appear on the site immediately. When you upload a new photo it may not have appeared in the 'gallery view' for a couple of minutes. We have changed this so that it appears immediately. This also applies to flagging a photo for moderation. As soon as a photo is flagged by a member it disappears from the site.

3. Profile picture next to member's comment - The member comments on your photo, video, profile or blog post now display the member's profile picture next to their comment. We also show the member profile picture on the friend request list.

4. Can now upload MOV video files - Fixed up an error that prevented members from uploading video files with the MOV file extension (coming soon: as soon as I get time i will be updating the video processing so that your uploaded videos are of a higher quality).

Where are my photos I uploaded? If you have uploaded photos or videos that are no longer visible it may be because they are being moderated. The big red button you see above photos and videos allows members to mark content to be moderated. This content is not visible to anyone except moderators. Moderators are regular members of this site who have the special ability to review content that has been marked for moderation. The moderator can decide to leave the content on the site or remove it permanently. So if the content you have uploaded never reappears then it is likely it has been removed.

Sólo queremos comentar rapidamente sobre lo que ha estado sucediendo con el sitio...

1. Tenemos un nuevo traductor "español" para que nuestros miembros de habla hispana vean cada vez menos las entradas de Inglés en las próximas semanas. Disculpen por el retraso.

2. Las fotografías y vídeos "ver la Galería" de la página web, ahora recuerdan la última opcion de búsqueda, cuando vuelvas al sitio, en la última opción de filtro se aplicara automáticamente. Por ejemplo, si sólo quieres ver fotos de mujeres a continuación, establece el tema de Mujeres y será recordado después.

3. La página de "Estadísticas del sitio" muestra ahora "Visitantes Online". Este es el número de personas que se encuentran actualmente en el sitio web, pero que no han iniciado sesion aun.

Tenemos una larga lista de características y mejoras que vamos a añadir en los próximos meses por lo que nos gustaria mantenerte a esa fecha.

Hi folks...

just a quick update on what has been happening with site development -

1. We have a new "Spanish" translator so our Spanish speaking members can expect to see less and less of those English entries over the coming few weeks. Apologies for the delay.

2. The Photo and Video "Gallery View" sections of the website now remember your last search choices so when you return to the site your last filter choice is automatically applied. For example, if you only want to see photos from women then set the subject to Female and it will be remembered thereafter.

3. The home page "Site Statistics" now shows "Guests Online". This is the number of people who are currently on the website but who haven't yet logged in.

We have a long list of features and enhancements we will be adding over the coming months so I will attempt to keep you all up-to-date by being a bit more regular with this blog.
